ABOUT

A clinical research operations consultancy built on rigor, ethics, and the right kind of ambition.

Horizon Clinical Nexus is an Ohio-based clinical research operations consultancy founded in 2026. We exist for one reason: too many clinical trials run with operational, regulatory, or community-engagement gaps that quality and outcome both pay for, and the cost of those gaps falls hardest on patients in populations that have historically been underserved by research.

We work with two kinds of clients: U.S. clinical research sites that want to perform better, and pharmaceutical sponsors and CROs evaluating the extension of rigorous, ethically-grounded clinical trials into Nigeria and West Africa.

The problems we solve

The specific operational, regulatory, and recruitment problems that sponsors and sites bring to us.

U.S. site challenges

Sites that underperform on recruitment

U.S. sites struggle to enroll on schedule when recruitment systems are informal, community engagement is reactive, or digital outreach is underdeveloped, costing them trials and revenue.

West Africa challenges

Sponsors who don't know what they don't know about Nigeria

Sponsors evaluating West African expansion often rely on generic emerging-market frameworks that miss Nigeria's specific regulatory and ethical realities.

Regulatory bottlenecks at site activation

Slow IRB submissions, incomplete site qualification packages, and unfamiliarity with sponsor expectations delay activation and create friction with monitors.

Reputational risk that outlives a single trial

Sponsors entering Nigeria inherit a complicated history. The cost of one mishandled adverse event extends far beyond a single trial.

Underrepresentation of African populations in research

Drugs are labeled with safety and efficacy data drawn predominantly from non-African populations. The scientific cost falls on patients globally.

Our Mission

To raise the operational, regulatory, and ethical standard of clinical research for the U.S. sites that conduct it today, and for the Nigerian institutions we believe will be central to it tomorrow.

Our Purpose

We exist to help clinical research perform better and reach further, supporting U.S. sites today and Nigerian and West African expansion tomorrow.

Why West Africa

The underrepresentation of African populations in pharmaceutical research is both a scientific problem and an equity problem. Drugs are licensed and labeled with safety and efficacy data drawn predominantly from non-African populations. The patients who shoulder the burden of many of these diseases, pediatric infectious disease, sickle cell, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, remain on the margins of the research that produces their treatments. Closing that gap is one of the most consequential opportunities in clinical research today, and it is the work Horizon Clinical Nexus exists to support.

Our focus on Nigeria specifically reflects three realities. The country has a population of 220 million, the largest research-capable academic medical infrastructure in West Africa, and a regulatory body (NAFDAC) that has been steadily modernizing its clinical trial framework. It also carries a complicated history with pharmaceutical research that demands a more thoughtful operating model than sponsors have historically brought. Both the opportunity and the responsibility are larger here than anywhere else in the region.

A NOTE ON WHAT WE BRING — AND WHAT WE DON'T

Our team's hands-on clinical trial experience is U.S.-based. What we offer sponsors evaluating West African expansion is a combination of U.S. trial operational rigor, Nigerian cultural and linguistic fluency, and a research-ethics-first orientation, not a track record of running trials on the continent. The trials we hope to help bring to Nigeria are ahead of us, not behind us.

We do not believe the answer is more Western trials parachuted into African sites. We believe in trials structured with Nigerian institutions as full partners, with benefit-sharing built into protocol design from the start, with post-trial access provisions for participants, and with capacity that remains in-country after the trial concludes. Our role is to help sponsors execute against this model operationally, regulatorily, and ethically.
